S M Kuddus Zaman was born on 12 August 1960 in Rajbari, Bangladesh. He obtained the Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) and Master of Laws degree in 1982 and 1983 respectively from the University of Dhaka. He entered in the judicial service as a Munsif on 22 February 1984 and was promoted to the position of District and Session Judge on 9 October 2006. Mr. Zaman worked for United Nations on two separate missions and locations . He was the International Judge of United Nations in East Timor for 2 years. In Sudan he worked for another 4 years as the Legal Advisor of UNDP. He worked as the Special Officer and for a very short duration as the Registrar in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He also worked as the Project Director of UNDP supported Judicial Strengthening Project (JUST). He worked for the Bangladesh Law Commission in 1997 as its Senior Research Officer. He also worked in the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary in 2006 as the Additional Project Director of World Bank supported Legal and Judicial Capacity Building Project. He has completed a certificate course on ‘Public International Law’ organized by Canada- Bangladesh Legal Reforms Project in 2006. He has also successfully completed in service UNDP Certificate Courses on ‘Gender Sensitivity and Sexual Harassment in the Workplace’, ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Information and Communication Technology’. He participated in different International Conference, Symposium and study tour held in India, Malayasia, Srilanka, Indonesia, Turkey, England, USA and Canada. Mr. Zaman is working as the District and Session Judge of Dhaka since 5 February 2015.
