Justice Md. Mainul Islam Chowdhury hails from Noakhali. He was born on
07.04.1957. He obtained his B.A.(Hons) and M.A. in Philosophy from Dhaka
University in 1978 and 1979 respectively. He also obtained his LL.B. degree from
the same University in 1983. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the District Court, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in the year 1984, 1986 and 2002 respectively. Mr. Chowdhury also obtained LL.B. (Hons) degree from The Anglia Polytechnic University, Essex, UK in 1991. Thereafter he completed Bar Course from The Council of Legal Education under the Bar Council of England and Wales and he received Barrister-at-Law certificate from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 24.11.1994. He practised in various courts of U.K. for about 5 years. Since 1998 he was a practising lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He was the elected Vice-President of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association for the period of 2005-
2006. He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court Division on 30.06.2009 and Judge of the same division on 06.06.2011. Prior to that he was the Secretary General of Bangladesh Chapter of Human Rights International, a U.K.
based organization. Mr. Chowdhury visited U.K., France, India, Singapore, Yemen and Russia.
